What You Need to Know
Hello everyone! My name is Ryan and I am very excited to share Spilled Ink, a poetry group for the soul.
Join me at Olds High School with a group of peers to read, write, discuss, and share poetry. I am interested in everything you have to bring to the table, whether that be the lines of your favourite author or an original, your pieces will be heard and valued. The meetings will vary from writing on prompts, reading powerful works of art, and performing as spoken word & slam poetry. This is a safe space to express yourself, but there is no requirement to share.
The group will run every Monday from 3:30pm-4:30pm at Olds High School.
If you have your own books of poetry, please feel free to bring them with you.
About Spilled Ink
Growing up in Olds, I always struggled to find my place in our small town. As a teenager, I had a lot to say, but I never felt as if anyone really heard me... so I got quiet. Most people don't understand the impact that that kind of quiet has on an individual. When we hold onto those words, that expression of ourselves and our needs, that energy, it gets stuck. That quiet followed me until I was 20. All those years in between, I got more and more sick; mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It's not that I wanted to die, but I didn't want to live like this. I was in so much pain and nothing I did could make it go away.
At 20, I knew I needed to make a radical change. I sought out a shamanic healer. I cannot explain in this small space that journey, but things changed. They changed faster than I could ever have imagined and I rediscovered a passion for my life here on Earth. I began to flow again. I have since delved into my magick. I continue to look to the forces of the universe, the power of the world around me, and the energy that pulls me back to my joy. I have come to learn that life doesn't have to be painful. I am here to live a human experience in it's entirety; the tears, the laughs, the adventures, the quiet moments, and most of all , the connection. I have dedicated myself to living in a good way, a way that feels good to me, and helping others find what feels good for them.
I named this group after a line by Courtenay Peppernell; "there is importance in your spilled ink."
For the spoken word holds immense power and so too does the written word. You are capable of healing. You are capable of flowing with ease. Your voice deserves to be heard in all it's authenticity. To speak all the truths and all the hurts that you have held inside. Your voice is power, reclaim it.
